Executive Assistant

Role Overview

As the  Executive Assistant to Surge Africa’s director, you will provide high-level administrative, organisational, and strategic support to the Director of Surge Africa. You will serve as a key coordination point, helping to manage the Director’s time, communications, and priorities while ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. This role requires discretion, initiative, and strong judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct administrative and executive support to the Director

  • Manage the Director’s calendar, scheduling meetings, appointments, and reminders

  • Draft, review, and format correspondence, reports, briefs, and presentations

  • Act as a liaison between the Director and internal/external stakeholders

  • Prepare agendas, attend meetings as required, and take accurate minutes

  • Track action items and follow up to ensure timely execution

  • Support planning and coordination of board meetings, strategy sessions, and external engagements

  • Manage confidential information with a high level of professionalism and discretion

  • Assist with travel planning, logistics, and virtual meeting coordination

  • Maintain organised digital filing and document management systems

  • Support special projects and perform other related duties as assigned by the Director

  • Other duties ancillary to the above.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience providing executive or senior administrative support

  • Proven experience supporting a senior leader or executive in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong organisational, time-management, and prioritisation skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • High level of discretion, professionalism, and attention to detail

  • Strong competency in digital tools, calendars, document management systems, and virtual workspaces

  • Ability to work independently, anticipate needs, and exercise sound judgment

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines

  • Interest in or understanding of climate change, development, or nonprofit work is an advantage.
